Mystic Harmony Square: 1 Pattern, Endless Options

Hey Gang, Jane here and I have another great crocheted granny square tutorial to share with you today.  I call this one, The Mystic Harmony Square.

It is a simple pattern and it offers a great canvas for trying out colour combos.  I will grab a few colours I want to experiment with and then work the square into various combinations.  It really makes a difference when you see the colours worked into a square together.

If you’re looking to explore more captivating color combinations for your squares, hop on over to my Instagram and Pinterest. I love sharing lots of pics of my colour experiments there!

Mystic Harmony Square

I will usually work at least four different squares mixing up the orders of the colours.  This gives me a good idea of how the colours will work together.  Then I can join the squares to make a trivet or a pillow cover.

I like to keep these swatches handy, so that I can revisit them to help me decide colour palettes for future projects.  It really is surprising how changing the colours and the position of the colours in a square can completely change the look of the square.

I’ve been wanting to work a square in black, white and grey, so I decided this is the one.  I have done it in so many colours to experiment with it, but there is something classic about using various shades of greys with a black and white dramatic contrast.

Mystic Harmony Square

This square starts in the round and then forms into a 12 petal floral design, then we square it off and add a few border rounds.  It is 8 rounds total and offers up a variety of stitches.  It uses the Double Crochet Cluster to make the petal shapes, which is one of the easier cluster shapes to make.

I will be using a worsted weight yarn, My chosen colours will be a winter white, putty, true grey and charcoal.  I will also be using a 5.5 mm crochet hook.  Other tools you will need are a pair of scissors and a darning needle to work in your ends.

The final square measures 6″ , the size can be altered by adding more border rounds.
